Huh        I'm trying to finde a service manual for a 1980 Yam XS1100;        I am trying to fix a friends bike that was sitting for 2 years  & he had carb probs the last time he had it out.  It was not running on all 4 for a while he said & he has had the carbs cleaned out a couple of times over the years.          I helped him work on it to get it running again & I found the two right side carbs had plugged pilot jets so we took of the carbs & cleaned out the bowls & removed all the pilot jets & cleaned them out with carb cleaner & a blower nozzel with 100 psi,   they all were clean & you could blow through them with your mouth.   I cleaned out the bowls realy good & put them back together.  we put them back on the bike & it fired up & wanted to idle on all 4 but as it warmed up a little it started to idle up to about 3 to 4 thousand rpm,  I dhecked out the linkage -ok i sprayed around all the carbs & boots & no change so no vac leaks  i think it is in the idle circut we did not clean out the carb bodys & blow them out could some one plz help me out here?  i'v been wrenching for over 30 years & have never seen one act like this  Huh Huh Shocked

thank you very much for any input on this situation or a possable link to a service manual to download                                                         Phil

Sounds like you need to syncronize all four carbs. Do you know how?

Mjello - in addition to syncronizing, you probably want to set idle mix and reset idle.

Well you have more then problems then carb problems check the vacum advance unit under the left enginer cover or you have a box box going bad more likely the vacum advance breaking down when you rev up moter. I been working on Yamaha's for 35 years for a living and seen this problem many times over the years.

Patrick with many Yamaha's of my own.
